Chester Township

Incorporated in 1799, Chester Township has historic homes, farms and newer developments. The township is known for its open space. Several parks are located in this rural township, including Black River Wildlife Preserve and the Willowwood Arboretum.

GOVERNING BODY: Township council. Mayor Benjamin L. Spinelli; Leonard J. Taylor, president; Joan Fischer; Jeffrey Deisher; William Cogger. Council meets first and third Tuesdays of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the municipal building. Township clerk: Lorett Skinner. Municipal offices: 1 Parker Road, Chester 07930, (908) 879-5100, weekdays 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

SCHOOL BOARD: Derek Moore, president; Erica Taterka, vice president; Michael Adelman; Robert Agree; Janet Hoven; Russell Nord-mark; Suzanne Patnaude; Hallie Swerdlin; and Tim Schmidt. The board meets the first and third Tuesdays of each month at the Black River Middle School, Route 513.

SCHOOLS: Chester Township Consolidated District (K-8), (908) 879-7383, is comprised of the Bragg and Dickerson elementary schools and the Black River Middle School. High school students attend West Morris Mendham High School, (908) 879-6404.

TOWNSHIP SERVICES: Trash pickup is a pay-per-bag garbage program; recycling is collected every Friday; for pickup of other items, (908) 879-5100, ext. 812. Rabies clinic is offered each November at the Chester Firehouse, Main Street.
