Mountain
Lakes
Imagine a community of homes built in an area shrouded
by trees, with rolling hills and quiet lakes. That's what Herbert
Hapgood imagined when he laid the foundations of the planned community
of Arts and Crafts style homes and man-made lakes, many of which
exist unchanged today as the staple of the borough of Mountain Lakes.
The small borough has changed little since its creation
in 1924. Still a small town of the affluent and historic homes and
mansions, the borough has strict land use laws.
There is one commercial area on Midvale Road, where a few shops
and businesses exist.
